Astro Alice sky data and licenses

This notice applies to the identified sky datasets assets/sky/bright_stars.json and assets/sky/constellation_lines.json, including the identical assets in the Astro Alice village package. It does not license app code, artwork or personal content.

Stellar positions and magnitudes

HYG Stellar Database v4.1, Astronexus.

Adapted by selecting the non-solar visual-magnitude <= 4 field plus required named stars and figure vertices, converting right ascension from hours to degrees, ordering records deterministically and retaining only the fields required by the renderer. Coordinates retain epoch and equinox J2000. No additional proper-motion calculation was made. Some entries describe unresolved multiple-star systems.

Constellation and asterism line data

Adapted by selecting 18 constellation definitions and the Big Dipper and Summer Triangle asterisms, expanding HIP chains into consecutive line segments, resolving HIP identifiers to the selected stellar table, and retaining the app's 20 familiar display names. No Stellarium software, illustration, narrative description or constellation boundary data is included.

Star names

IAU star naming: https://www.iau.org/public/themes/naming_stars/

International Astronomical Union (IAU), Working Group on Star Names (WGSN). Navi is a traditional alias for Gamma Cassiopeiae, whose current IAU name is Tiansi. HYG numeric rows can represent unresolved systems; these names do not claim separate resolved-component photometry.

IAU Working Group on Star Names associations are credited to the IAU. The existing selected name list is associated through the retained IAU HIP records rather than HYG's unofficial companion names. The IAU catalog source notice permits attribution-based reuse: https://www.pas.rochester.edu/~emamajek/WGSN/IAU-CSN.txt . Current nomenclature: https://exopla.net/star-names/modern-iau-star-names/ . Navi is retained as a traditional alias for Gamma Cassiopeiae, corroborated by Jim Kaler's university-hosted account: https://stars.astro.illinois.edu/sow/ruchbah.html . Navi is not claimed as an IAU-approved name. No etymological prose from these sources is included.
